Default Let's see your hives!

I figured I'd start up a picture thread to get a little more action on the message board. Let's see some photos of your hives and their respective locations! It'll be neat to see the various set-ups that we've got throughout the EMBA group.

We've currently got 3 hives out at our property roughly 10m south of Hermann, MO. The 2 hives next to one another were started after the 2008 Beekeeping meeting in Clayton. They were both started from packages, the hive on the right has been quite a bit stronger than the one on the left.

This shot was taken this summer on the afternoon I pulled the supers to extract the honey. I don't think they were ready for the sudden decrease in living space.

This is a nuc hive I made up last spring using frames from my 2 overwintered hives and a new queen from the EMBA source.

All 3 hives have "new" queens as of this past season. Apparently I am so skilled at increasing their population size they all wanted to swarm and spread the news. The nuc hive is in for a surprise this spring as I'll be dethroning their matriarch ASAP to install a kinder, gentler ruler. They became excessively aggressive after they started up again with their post-swarm queen.

Let's see some pictures of your setup!

Talking Yerfdog's Apiary

Here are my hives in Valley Park. Two near the garden and one up near the house.

Looks like a nice setup you've got.

Talking All Mediums

Not to hijack this thread....but.....yes I use all mediums. I missed the original workshop three years ago and followed the newsletters information about ordering kits through Dadant or Kelly. I found a second beginners kit through Dadant that was all mediums. All parts are interchangeable (brood boxes and supers) plus they are lighter. These factors along with three previous back surgeries caused me to go with mediums. The only problem with mediums is that all the books and speakers deal in terms of deeps. Most of the differences are easily figured out but when it comes to reversing it becomes more challenging. Especially since Gary Reuter (at the last workshop) advised me to use five mediums for the brood boxes (I currently use three). This may be more for Minnesota winters but I might increase to 4 brood boxes. I would like to hear others experiences in using mediums but we should start a new thread on that.

Post some pics of your hives fellow EMBA'ers. Newbees too!!!!

Here's a swarm cell search and destroy video on a captured swarm from last year. All I found was queen cups at this point, but they were working on new queens in a couple of them.

Default Not sure if this fits....

Not sure if these qualify as seeing the hives but some are in view. It is of my granddaughter and son-in-law helping me install some nucs back in April.
